The mission of Best Buddies is to establish a global volunteer movement that creates opportunities for one-to-one friendships, integrated employment, leadership development, and inclusive living for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).

Best Buddies is a global volunteer movement that believes in empowering our volunteers to carry out the mission and change the world through the power of friendship. Through the leadership and support of our volunteers, we have been able to share our purpose of inclusion across the world. Creating friendships to advance social inclusion, independence, and empowerment for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) is the cornerstone of our mission.

Founded in 1989 by Anthony K. Shriver, Best Buddies is a vibrant organization that has grown from one original chapter to nearly 2,900 chapters worldwide, positively impacting the lives of over 1.25 million people with and without IDD. Best Buddies programs engage participants in each of the 50 states in US and in 54 countries around the world.
